Family Reading

Reading by young peopleĀ is the subject of considerable attention because of the positive links between reading and educational outcomes.

As well as helping to teach children how to read and providing them with reading materials, parents can help by modelling reading themselves.

The modelling of reading by parents does not expressly teach children how to read, but rather serves to communicate a preference or interest in reading that can be shared between parents and young people over time. (Mullan, 2010)
